I have checked what you suggested and Apple Mobile device was listed. But music is a real issue. Ringer is one app that works quite well. But what if you really need to add apps to iPhone iPad from Mac or PC, or managing the apps on device, such as?

I have iPad Air first generation with iOS 8. I have iTunes 12. I have authorized iTunes to access my iPad but I cannot see any apps in my iTunes when I connect my iPad to PC.
